Why this list matters to home care providers
The Home Office maintains a public Register of Licensed Sponsors (Workers) and, alongside it, publishes movements — new licences, suspensions and revocations — on a rolling basis. Since the 2022 Health & Care Worker route was opened to care worker roles under SOC codes 6135 and 6136, the register has become a working document for the domiciliary and residential care market: it names the organisations authorised to sponsor overseas care staff, and it names the ones that no longer are.
For a home care provider, three things change once a nearby sponsor is revoked. Sponsored workers on that licence have a limited window — typically 60 days — to find a new sponsor. Local commissioners begin looking for continuity of care for the affected packages. And the wider workforce picture in that patch tightens or loosens accordingly. None of this requires a prediction; it is simply the published direction of travel.
How to check if a sponsor licence has been revoked
- Open the Home Office Register of Licensed Sponsors (Workers) on gov.uk. It is the authoritative source and is refreshed most working days.
- Search by the organisation's legal name, not its trading name. Care providers frequently trade under a brand that differs from the registered entity holding the licence.
- Confirm the route. A "Worker" licence covering the Health & Care Worker route is what applies to sponsored care roles under SOC 6135 and 6136.
- Cross-reference the revocation and suspension list published alongside the register. A recently removed name that no longer appears on the main register has usually been revoked or has voluntarily surrendered the licence.
A "tier 2 sponsor licence suspended list" as a standalone document is a legacy phrase — the current published artefacts are the register itself and the movements list. Both live on gov.uk; neither requires a login.
Revoked vs suspended — the practical difference
Suspended
An active investigation. New Certificates of Sponsorship cannot be issued. Existing sponsored workers are unaffected for the duration of the suspension. Outcome may be reinstatement or revocation.
Revoked
Final withdrawal of the licence. Sponsored workers usually have 60 days to find a new sponsor or leave the UK. The organisation is barred from re-applying for a defined cooling-off period.
